Key responsibilities

  • Research and development on industrial machines.

  • Monitor condition of capital equipment.

  • Monitor condition of capital equipment, research and development of new equipment to increase the rate of manufacturing.

Key Achievements

  • Researched and acquire a turning machines which successfully replace the existing machines and boosted the lead time by 40%.

MECHANICAL ENGINEER

ALCHIN LONG GROUP, SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Nov 2018 - Feb 2021

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T) for various hardware products

  • Testing methodology includes but is not limited to 3D CAD modelling and Finite Element Analysis on structural load.

  • Plastic or Sheet Metal design

  • Complete FEA on design concepts to validate and improve.

  • Providing Design and Engineering expertise to facilitate and enrich technical aspects of R&D projects.

  • From product manager design brief, I delivered engineering input to all stages of the development process from concept design and design review, part selection and recommendation, configuration troubleshooting, through to final design and implementation, conducting final testing as well as verification and validation.

Key achievements

  • Research and Development of a sub system to automate assembly process so the operation of the assembly process can be moved in “Industry 4.0”. This automation utilized a robot to assemble high volume parts at a faster cycle time than an operator. The operator was used on a different stage of the assembly process, which the robot is unable to be utilised. The overall cycle time was reduced by 45% and the number of operators was reduced from 4 to 1.

  • Design and Manufacturing of a Door Lock Hardware to be sold in the International Market.

  • Rapid Design and Prototyping of a Testing System and Testing Rig for a New Product to test for the designated life cycle, cycle load and ultimate load.

  • Transformed existing manual actuated Door Lock Hardware to Electronic Door Lock with Smart Home connective capability. Material selection, functionality, aesthetics and manufacturing methods were crucial for this project to keep the manufacturing cost to a minimum. Extensive testing such as ultimate load, fail-safe and fatigue tests were conducted on the system.

  • Change of manufacturing suppliers for a product range. Confidential correspondence between the two suppliers to make sure the changeover was smooth. Clear understanding of the current stock levels and forecasted stock levels for the product range were required to make sure any customer sales were not affected during the changeover.

  • Design and Development of a testing procedure for a Product Range that satisfies Local and Global Safety Standards

  • AS 204:2014 – Windows and external glazed doors in buildings

  • BS EN 13126-6:2008 Building Hardware – Requirements and test methods for windows and doors height windows

  • NZS 4211:2008 New Zealand Standards Specification for Performance of Windows
